Delicious Dog Treats That Prevent Fleas?! Learn How to Make Them With This Recipe!

The dog treats in the Health Starts in the Kitchen recipe below contain two great ingredients that will help your pooch stay healthy. The ingredients are brewer's yeast and coconut oil and both contain vitamins and are natural medications so to speak. Isn't it great that you can keep your pup healthy and provide him with yummy treats?! I think so!

When we decided to get another dog, we committed to raising him as naturally as possible, including raw food and avoiding medications. One of my biggest challenges with Hercules, was finding a healthy, non-toxic way to keep him flea-free.

By combining coconut oil and brewers yeast, using the same idea behind my Perfectly Portioned Coconut Oil, I’ve created the prefect Homemade Flea Prevention Dog Treats!

BENEFITS OF BREWER’S YEAST FOR DOGS
Brewer’s yeast has several uses for dogs. It is a source of B vitamins such as biotin, trace minerals such as zinc, proteins and amino acids. The amino acids and vitamins can help make a dog’s skin healthier and its coat shinier. Brewer’s yeast is often recommended by holistic vets to help strengthen dogs’ immune systems.

BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL FOR DOGS
Many diseases and ailments, like yeast infections, smelly coats, hot spots, cuts that have been infected, and even cracked paws, can all be cured with just a jar of coconut oil. When all forms of diet remedies have failed, then it is time to try out this miracle natural medicine for your dog.

Many vets and researchers today are recommending the regular use of coconut oil for dogs and many other pets as an excellent source of nutrients, which keeps your dog in good health.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE FLEA PREVENTION DOG TREATS
Gently heat coconut oil over low heat until liquid (or if its over 72 degrees F in your home, your coconut oil may already be liquid). Combine roughly equal parts of Brewer’s yeast with your melted coconut oil, stirring well. There is no exact measurements required, you want it to be a slightly thick but pourable liquid.

Pour your coconut oil and Brewer’s yeast into small silicone molds or push out ice cube trays (these links are to the ones I have and use).

I do not worry too much about the specific dosage, I give Hercules (who weighs about 90 pounds) 3 treats a day which yields about 1.5 tablespoons of each coconut oil and Brewer’s yeast a day. (that’s 9 – 1/2 teaspoons) Sometimes he gets more or less, I have found no reported downfalls to giving more coconut oil and Brewer’s yeast.
