The Labrador, Hero, is a trained diabetic alert dog who takes care of Sadie, a little girl who has Down syndrome and diabetes. According to a KUTV report, one day while Sadie was at school Hero started whining and pawing Sadie’s parents. “He's normally a very quiet dog. Whining is not in his protocol.” Michelle, Sadie’s mom said.
Because Hero wouldn’t stop whining, Michelle contacted her daughter's school just in case. An hour later, Sadie’s blood sugar had dropped to a dangerously low level.
Sadie's parents said that they don’t really know how Hero knew that Sadie’s blood pressure was dropping, but they have just learned to roll with it. “I can't explain it,” they said. “These dogs have abilities and senses beyond our understanding.”
Isn't that crazy? Hero couldn't have been named more appropriately! Our dogs are clearly more than just furry animals who can bark and destroy a couch in an hour. Dogs have been known to perform countless acts of heroism, but this story makes you want to believe in magic. What would Sadie and her parents have done if their dog had not been able to alert them? Hero loves this girl so much and will be by her side making new memories and keeping her healthy as she gets older!
