Dogs use their body language in mysterious ways. Just when we think we have them pegged they start a new behavior we are duty bound to figure out.
Recently, moving from a house with a big yard to an apartment, our dog has been wearing a halter for his daily walks. Initially, he would stay still as we fitted the halter around him but lately he’s been lifting his right paw every time we slip the halter and snap the leash around him. He knows it means he’s going for a walk and he’s thrilled.
But why does he raise his paw every time we get ready for that walk? Really, why does a dog lift his paw at all? There must be a reason, right?
