They Told a Little Boy His Dog Was Going to be Put Down. His Response Gave Me the Chills.

We don't need science to tell us the special bond between a human and dog is real. We can feel it, and so did this little boy. However, when a six-year-old boy found out his pup would soon be put to sleep from having cancer, even though he was sad, he understood. He even felt peace during the process! His reaction was gut-wrenchingly beautiful. Keep reading to find out what he said:

Science has proven that the human-canine bond is real. Belker was no exception. His companionship earned him a place as the fourth member of the family and Shane loved him as much as any little boy loves his first dog, but their friendship would soon encounter a major bump in the road.

The doctor examined Belker thoroughly. What he discovered, he had seen numerous times.

Upon examination, the veterinarian discovered Belker was dying of cancer. He told the family he couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

Ron and Lisa wrestled with their decision to euthanize their beloved Belker. They struggled with how to tell Shane the news.

Ron and Lisa told him they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to be present for the procedure.

They all sat together after Belker’s death, wondering aloud how sad it is that animal lives are shorter than humans. Shane, who had been listening quietly, spoke ”I know why. . . People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life, like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” He continued, ”Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

The companionship and love that your dog can provide is immeasurable, and saying goodbye is never easy. Hopefully Shane’s words will bring comfort to those who have recently said goodbye to a beloved pet companion and the memories you have with them stay alive in your heart.

For those of us who have lost a pet, sometimes there is nothing that can ease our pain for a while. It's not easy losing a best friend, but perhaps if we choose to reflect on the good memories and the love that we shared with a best doggy friend the grieving will become a bit easier.

This little boy chose to think positively and what he said during the process was very profound. Dogs do have a lot to love to give while on earth, and we are fortunate enough to share those precious days and moments with them!
