Why it’s Important to Allow Our Dogs to Sniff During Walks

Each day, we say that special sentence with our dogs' favorite four-letter word: “Let's go for a WALK!” That word seems to instantly perk their ears up, make their tail wag and their energy skyrocket more than any other word. Well, with the exception of “treat” maybe.

We usually think of these walks as a way for our dogs to exert some of their seemingly infinite amounts of energy just as we need to exercise outside or go to the gym.

What we might not remember is that our dogs need mental exercise just as they need physical exercise. We spend the day interacting with people, solving problems and taking in the world through our daily routines.

Our dogs aren't often able to do the same so their walk time serves as much-needed mental stimulation.
