1- The Name
You probably have read somewhere that their scientific name is Lycaen pictus but you probably don’t know that this means-literally- painted wolf.

2- Unique Patterns
Did you know that the coat of every dog has a unique pattern that distinguishes him?

3- Extremely Powerful Bite
Their bite is also extremely powerful with specialized molars for breaking bones and shearing meat.

4- Strong Senses
African wild dogs have an exceptionally keen senses of sight and smell. But Their strongest sense is hearing as their large rounded ears that are lined with a large number of muscles allow the dogs to swivel their ears to pick up the minutest of sounds.

5- Formidable Endurance Hunters
Thanks to their long legs, their lean build and the rapid muscle recovery, African Wild dogs are formidable endurance hunters.

In others words, these are all formidable dogs, wild or domesticated!

When we heard about #3, their extremely powerful bite, we were reminded of hyenas. But we’ve learned that a hyena is actually closer to the cat family than a canine. Perhaps we can call these dogs the hyena of the dog family!
