This DNA Test Not Only Will Tell a Person Their Dog’s Breed, But it Can Help Them Have a Longer, Happier Life

It's adorable that we're able to learn so much about our doggies with a single DNA test. It might even make our dogs feel better knowing where they came from! No more identity crisis!

We’ve written about Ryan and Adam Boyko’s Embark DNA Test before, but as we like to say, don’t bark the bark unless you can walk the walk.

So in the interest of science we had 3 of our employees have their dogs take the test. The mystery mutts were:

Tucker

Jax

Tonks

Not only did they give breed and lineage, the test broke down matrilineal source (a.k.a where your dog’s ancestors originated), what genes they had that determined their fur, eye color, size and most importantly, any genetic flags regarding future health issues.

Embark is constantly updating its database to reflect new genetic information, both breed and health-wise. In fact, the startup aims to use its information to research causes in dog and human health problems.

The full DNA test kit is available via the site at $199, and though it is a steeper price than other tests on the market, no other test is as comprehensive–or at the very least, is the only one to posses the ability to help you extend your pup’s life.

Pretty cool, right?? Technology not only improves our health, but it can improve the health of our furbabies as well. We get to learn the fun stuff like what our dog's family tree looks like, but we also get to become informed about any potential health issues they could face. That way, we can get ahead of any problems and ensure that our doggies stay with us for as long as possible! And if you have the urge to frame his family tree, we definitely won't judge you!
