Flat-faced dogs, like Pugs, have been very popular over the last ten or twenty years. We can thank the internet for most of the visibility but also prestigious kennel club shows and marketing.

Don’t we love Frank the Pug in the movies Men In Black One and Two?

They are all just so cute, have winning personalities, and are photogenic. Can we not help but fall in love with a pug and their brethren, the bulldog?

Maybe we’d be a little less thrilled with our choice of dog breed if we knew they were selectively bred and, in doing this, the pups find themselves with a host of medical problems.

Many pugs find it difficult to breathe and eat. They are known to eye issues and easily overheat. We already know if we feed a pug too much they will quickly become overweight because of an innate sedentary lifestyle.

Honestly, we do not want to get into a pug’s inherent dental issues although they are definitely a concern. The point is, their cuteness comes at a price.

After the break go over and check out some interesting facts about our beloved canines, what doctors really think, and where we should go from here. Is poor, gentle Pugsley the pug one of the last of his breed?
