Pug Tips did a wonderful job teaching us some well-known facts about pugs that we didn't know before! Like who knew that celebs like Jessica Alba, Gerard Butler, and Dave Ramsey have pugs as well?! Well, since we know that pugs are super cute, who wouldn't want to own them?

These toy breeds are friendly, loyal, and cute to boot. As you continue to get to know your furry best friend keep these facts in mind because they'll only help you understand your pooch better!

1. The AKC Officially recognized the breed in 1895 – Although these guys have been popular for centuries around the world, the American Kennel Club didn’t officially recognize them until 1895. But then again, the club didn’t exist until 1984 so it’s not too surprising that it took that long.

2. They are the official dog of the House of Orange – After a heroic Pug called Pompey saved the life of a prince, the breed became the dog of choice by the House of Orange-Nassau dynasty.

3. Chinese name for Pugs is Lo-Sze – Good luck trying to pronounce that one correctly. I’m not going to even try. I’ll just end up embarrassing myself.

4. Pugs Originated from China – Although their original birthplace was in China, they traveled and captured our hearts around the world. If I didn’t know any better, I would have guessed that they are planning a global takeover of cuteness.

5. Pugs are considered to be a toy breed – Since these little guys are so small in size compared most of the other dog breeds, they are classified as a toy breed.

6. Pugs are celebrities – well not really, but there are a ton of celebrities that have pugs of their own. Just a few examples include Jessica Alba, Gerard Butler, Robin Williams, Kid Rock, Brix Smith, Dave Ramsey, Hugh Laurie and even Queen Victoria. There are a lot more examples, too many to list in fact.
