When he and the suitcase entered the room his wife was asleep. He unzipped the suitcase, and out popped the dog who immediately jumped on the bed. Somehow the pooch knew to avoid the wires and IV. Then they both waited for her to wake up.
“The dog immediately started licking her, and quietly moaned, as if knowing that barking would definitely blow our cover. My wife hugged her for almost an hour, smiling the whole time. We were busted by one nurse who was so touched that she promised not to tell,” the man stated in his Reddit post.
Just a couple days after this whole encounter, the man’s wife passed away. Having fulfilled one of her final wishes before she passed away, the man and dog were always left with a little reminder of the moment they all shared just a little while before when they looked at the suitcase. Whenever the man goes to use the suitcase now, the dog still thinks they are going back to see her.
We do understand why dogs or any animals would not be allowed into the woman’s hospital room. After all, there are regulations and any germ a dog or cat might bring in could be dangerous. However, under the circumstances, it is a delight to see that this woman’s last wish was granted, even if it was clandestinely done.
Actually, we feel once the nurse found out about the subterfuge the jig was pretty much up. She would have had to report it despite what she said to him. However, because the woman did not have long left to live, and the staff was sympathetic, it was allowed.
