You can't make eye contact with a pug and not fall in love with them. Those large eyes seem to magically open your heart and speak to your soul. Their uniquely wrinkled faces and short snouts make them instantly charming and unlike any other species.

In specific, I feel as though I have a special connection to pugs because, like myself, they enjoy sleeping. As a result, they're the ideal partner for a weekend full of relaxation and Netflix.

However, that's no reason to underestimate them. They'll always give you a run for your money at a game of tug of war or fetch. It's also not surprising to learn that they charm kids, too. They're a great family pup!

However, there can be an unfortunate flip side to these distinctive-looking guys. We'd prefer to avoid thinking about it, but as a pug owner, it's important to become educated about the genetic downsides that could tag along with those wrinkles and curly tails.

There's no need for you to immediately rush your pug to the vet. Instead, you can make sure they're healthy simply by remaining vigilant.
